The Corrigan Correctional Institution opened on December 30, 1994, as a Level 4 high-security facility for male offenders. The Radgowski Correctional Institution, a Level 3 medium-security facility, opened earlier on January 10, 1991.
In May 2001, the two institutions were consolidated as the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center to enhance operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility. The Radgowski facility was closed on October 6, 2021, following a reduction in Connecticut’s incarcerated population, leaving Corrigan as the active site.
Corrigan Correctional Center continues to uphold Connecticut’s commitment to public safety, accountability, and rehabilitation, maintaining a dedicated staff of approximately 434 correctional professionals who ensure secure operations and effective inmate programming.
